"Old Chinese Cup painted in Sepia with the scene of the Crucifixion under instruction of the Jesuit Fathers. Probable date between 1723 to 1736. Yung-ching period." Gilt haloes on the three characters. Crown of thorns and three nails in bowl. Gulland (1911:12) refers to this style as "Jesuit China". Ann Roberts: A Jesuit ware Teabowl, decorated in grisaille with the Crucifixio the details heightened in gilding, wood stand.
