e) Pair of boots, vamp of dense black cotton twill; square toe of black leather; sole of sturdy leather; one plate of extra leather under heel to raise it very slightly; lined with undyed cotton twill; top bound with thin silk petersham ribbon; 11 pairs of handworked eyelets at inside; inked on left sole '1840', on right sole 'ANN Spearman (?)/ illeg./ illeg/ 1840'.
Boots have no tongue.
