Year of publication 2024

Report Number: 342

The WA Museum Department of Maritime Heritage first visited and identified the site of Cervantes in 1970, after its discovery by L. Walsh in 1969. Cervantes was recorded and excavated by the Museum in 1988, then inspected in 2012 (McAllister 2013). The 2023 site inspection was carried out to follow up a report recieved by the Cervantes Historical Society in 2022, that the wreck had significantly deteriorated. In 2023, the extent of the shipwreck exposed on the site was recorded and recommendations suggested for the furutre preservation of the site.
