Site Area Code Mid-West

Site Location In water c. 1.2 m deep in the shallows inside the reef, to the north of the boiler also inside the shallows (c. 100 m). Port hole was open and folded parallel to the bulkhead it was attached to, the hinged glass pane hidden under the steel bulkhead. The steel rivets had rusted away and the port hole was removed without a problem. Evidence of a red lead putty used to seal the brass to the steel was visible as the port hole came out.

William Gray and Company built the Windsor at West Hartlepool, Durham, UK. The vessel had one deck and a 10-inch bar keel, with water ballast tanks 268 ft long holding 653 tons in a cellular bottom.
