White body with clear glaze. Scalloped rim with low relief moulding on edge. Painted with scattered cornflowers in blue, green and gilt. Gilt edge. No marks on cups. Mark on base of saucer: Circle with 'The GOLD MEDAL awarded May 30th 1820. PATRONISED by the SOCIETY of ARTS.' around inside a wreath of leaves with 'Coalport/ (improved)/ FELTSPAR/ Porcelain' in centre. On outside of circle 'J. ROSE & Co.' Several versions of the 1820 Royal Society of Arts printed mark were in use for about 10 years from 1820 but the addition of 'improved' indicates a date c. 1825.
