PILLOW CASE, With Reticella Border

White. Small linen square with wide edging of reticella. Linen threads fastened off with drawn thread work and reticella attached directly to edge. Lace work comprises two narrow edges with wider insertion. Linked by drawn thread work. 2 narrow strips joining to back, and strip at each end, with pointed edge. Front trimmed with small toggles. Very fine linen. Reticella shows characteristic geometric grid-based pattern. Christie's Auction catalogue dated as late 16th century.
