CUP AND SAUCER

Clear uncrazed glaze. Probably soft paste porcelain rather than bone china. Deep saucer without well. Bat printed in red. Both landscapes but different scenes. It was common to have several different scenes in the one dinner set. Gilded edge. No marks. Same style and scenes as fig. 260 in Leonard Whiter Spode. This item has pattern number 557 indicating date ca 1799-1804. Bat printing usually in black, colours very rare according to Whiter. See also pages 85, 182 - 3.
