Moulded fluted jug. Lilac printed and enamelled over in green and yell flowers. Printed mark on base 'SPODE'S \ NEW FAYENCE' within border. Impressed mark also 'SPODE \ 40' & impressed '24'. New fayence was an improved earthenwa body introduced towards the end of the Spode period. This followed an earlier improvement known as 'Spode's Imperial.' Ref: L. Whiter Spode pages 138-9, 226.
