VULCANISER, steam

H1988.387

Steam Vulcaniser used to vulcanise rubber - a technique which was the only really satisfactory denture base material until acrylic resin. Processing temperature was 320 degrees F, at 100 lbs per sq inch pressure. Vulcanite was well tolerated but was unaesthetic. Vulcaniser has gauge which reads "THE / BRENTFIELD / GAS REGULATING GAUGE / MADE IN ENGLAND" Used at dental practice in York.
