BADGE Punks Against the Bomb
H1990.398
This handmade button type is made up of the message printed on paper covered by a piece of protective plastic pressed onto a commercially purchased base probably by a badge press hired from The Badger where the badge base was acquired. A sticker on the back of the badge reads: "THE BADGER / Badge Machine Hire / Badges, Photo's, Name Tags / 2 Knocklotty Tce / West Hobart 7000". This sticker has been obscured by another sticker. The badge would have been made by placing the message paper underneath a sheet of protective plastic. The base would have been positioned on the press the message and plastic placed on top and then the whole thing would have been pressed together forming the badge. The badge is printed in red ink on a white surface. It depicts a punk kicking a bomb. Above the picture is printed: "PUNKS AGAINST" and below the picture is printed: "THE BOMB". On top of the sticker mentioned previously is another with the following wording: "SUPPORT TASMANIA'S / NUCLEAR FREE ZONE. / Write P.N.D., / 102 Bathurst St / HOBART Tas 7001". Underneath the stickers are the moulded letters of the manufacturer of the base. Given that the design of the base is identical to that of H90.396 I assume that they are B.A.M. The pin has been placed between the plastic and the metal of the base probably during its manufacture.
