Small, rectangular, brown detail on white, paper, ‘THE/ JAPANESE GOVERNMENT/…/ FIFTY CENTS’, bank note. Brown detailed background with scalloped border, with tropical tree motif on right side of field. Block font ‘50’ in each corner, with ‘MT/ THE/ JAPANESE GOVERNMENT/ PROMISES TO PAY THE BEARER ON DEMAND/ FIFTY CENTS/ MT’, in left centre of field. Japanese writing in bottom centre, as part of border. Reverse has arched, floral style design, with oak leaf like scroll, ‘50’ bordered by floral design either side of central detail. Paper discoloured with age, pink shading to background (ink leak? Or design?). Small dirty rust? spots on reverse, slight creases over note.
