Small, rectangular, red cover with black and gold detail, hard cover, ‘ARIEN-ALBUM/…’, music book. Front cover is bright red, with gold coloured rising/setting sun and stylised tree in background, with title banner in top centre and collection of motifs in foreground, including musical notes, a Pegasus, small stringed instruments and a swan. Title banner is a black rectangle, with gold text, with red and gold wave design as top border, and abstract floral design as bottom border. Text reads ‘EDITION PETERS/ ARIEN-ALBUM/ FÜR/ MEZZO-SOPRAN/II’. Rounded spine, with black text, reads ‘Arien-Album für Mezzo-Sopran II’. Back cover plain, with embossed, straight lined, border detail. Inside cover page reads ‘Arien-Album/ Sammlung/ Berühmter Arien/ für Mezzo-Sopran/ mit Pianofortebegleitung/ revidirt von/ Albert Dörffel./ Eigenthum des Verlegers./ 8017/ LEIPZIG/ C.F. PETERS.’, bordered by heavily brocaded border, with cherubs, scrolls, two female figures either side of lower half, floral and faunal motifs. Back inside cover page, handwritten pencil note on top left corner, ‘5 - …./ Weichelt’? 127 pages. Cover worn at edges and corners, especially along raised sides of spine (threads coming loose from fabric covering). Pages yellowed with age, edges dirty.
