Small, rectangular, white with black and red detail, black ink, paper, German Navy service booklet. Thin, rectangular, black border, with a black iron cross symbol in each corner, and a rectangular, thin red border inside. Field has a mixture of printed and handwritten, gothic cursive German text, with large German naval crest in centre, flanked by letters ‘W.D.’. Crest shows anchor in background, with large eagle motif and shield in centre. Handwritten text indecipherable. Printed text reads; ‘Raiferliche Marine./ Militärpak/ Fahrestlaffe: 19…’? Handwritten pencil mark in top right corner, above crest, indecipherable. Reverse plain, with small amount of printed gothic German text in centre, listing an address in Kiel; ‘Marine-Fermukarmagazin und Buchdruckerci/ von L. Dandorff, Kiel, Raulftrabe 17.’? 48 pages. Page ‘1’ (centre of booklet) gives details of the ‘bookholder’, reads ‘Nationale des Buchinhabers/ 1. Bornamen und Familiennamen:/ David Bernhard Behrens/ Geboren am 31 ten Marz 1872/ zu Kiel/ Bermaltungsbezirk:/ Bundesftaat: Preufrau [?]/ 2. Gtand oder Gemerbe: [indecipherable]/ Religion: [indecipherable]/ Ob verheiratet: ja/ Kinder: 1 0. 2 7./ Datum und Urt des Diensteintritts: 26.9.16/ [indecipherable]/ Bei welchem Marineteil (unter Ungabe der/ Rompagnie)/ [indecipherable]’, (translation in Provenance). Latter pages of booklet have similar handwritten text, but largely indecipherable. Booklet paper discoloured with age, cover bent upwards due to use, spine worn. Some dirty marks over cover, especially at edges, top edge slightly creased and bent over.
