STENCIL KIT

H1992.322.a-h

The kit contains a tin of letters, black (marsh) ink, blue (Dy-mark) ink, all-mark solvent, a knife, 2 stencil stamps and a carton of carbon stencil sheets (to test the made up message before inking?).
[.a] TIN OF RUBBER LETTERS/ NUMBERS. No marks
[.b] CARTON OF STENCIL CARBON SHEETS. 'Weber marking'.
[.c] KNIFE. For cutting letters/ numbers etc. No marks.
[.d] PLASTIC CONTAINER OF BLUE INKN. 'Dy-mark/ R600/ Blue/ 060789'.
[.e] TIN OF 'MARSH/ T-GRADE/ MARKING PEN INK/ MARSH STENCIL, BELLEVUE, ILLINOIS'.
[.f] TIN OF 'ALLMARK/ SOLVENT/ 314 CHARLES ST. NORTH PERTH'.
[.g] STENCIL STAMP 'CHINESE 210'. 'Webber marking systems/ To ink remove handles'.
[.h] STENCIL STAMP 'CHINESE 150'. 'Webber marking systems/ To ink remove handles'.

This stencil kit was used to mark cartons for shipment to various destinations, both local and for export. The rubber letters/numbers etc., contain some complete strips which make up the identity of the product e.g. cakes, tarts etc (with weights) and the letters can be made up to read anything desired. The two stencil stamps each bear their last export destination [.g] 'CHINESE 210'; [.h] 'CHINESE 150'. 'NEW ZEALAND' (Stamped on H1992.315) is from this set also. The letters are clipped onto rubber strips which are fixed (by glue?) onto the stencil stamp. A fabric cover is put over the message. The fabric is inked (fill through handle self inking). When the stamp is pressed onto a carton, the letters bear against the inked fabric and print the message.
