HOST MAKER, cast iron
H2004.41
Lightly corroded cast iron mould, rectangular plates bolted scissor-like to rod-like arms, squared near plates. One arm flattens to a pointed end with notch for a clasp, the other ends in an eye with elliptical shaped chain link clasp attached. 4 circles stamped on interior of one plate, 2 large, 2 small, large circles bordered with crown of thorns motif and featuring central image of Jesus on the cross, surmounted by an "INRI" scroll. Small circles feature non-serifed letters "JHS" surmounted by a cross and jesus' bleeding heart symbol below. Interior of alternate plate stamped with two parallel lines, each with a joining line at a 45° angle (for breaking of host). Numbers "113" stamped on arm attatched to upper plate.
