PAINTING, Male Portrait, possibly Symers

H1995.1242

Oil portrait of bearded, balding man in ornate gilded wood frame. Man is wearing high white collar turned down at the corner ; there is an indistinguishable badge or button at his neckline. His dark clothes are otherwise indistinguishable. No backdrop.
The portrait is unsigned, and is mounted in an oval wood window within the carved, gilded frame. The detail of the frame is built up from plaster on a wood base.
The portrait was accompained by a hand-written tag "eldest son?/Capt Symers."
Note that the Bicentennial Dict of Western Australians records that Capt. Symers only had two sons survive into adulthood: Thomas actually died at only 14, Stewart is the only possible subject of this portrait if it is Capt. Symers son.
