Boxlock muzzleloading percussion pistol. This type of cheap single shot pistol was imported into Australia in large numbers between the 1840s and 1900, usually from Europe. This pistol dates from around 1891, and was the property of Otto Lipfert, the first taxi- dermist and collector at the W.A. Museum between 1894-1942. Marked on rhs of barrel "Stahl" (steel), on top of barrel "?g NGPM 61 / 38g BL" (?grains of powder 61 / 250 grain bullet).
