GUN, Japanese matchlock musket

Steel barrel, octagon shaped. Charge/projectile: Powder and ball. Action: Muzzle load. Bore: smooth. Sights: Fore - block with groove; Rear - block with groove. Brass band and protector. Ramrod missing. Decoration of flowers and birds (engraved doves) on barrel and inlaid with copper 'ume' or plum blossom motifs. Fittings of brass and steel. Numeral '5' painted on butt in green paint. Peg holes holding gun together - some outlined in brass. Japanese characters on stock between trigger and breech. Photograph of musket on file.
