M.L.E. = Magazine. Lee-Enfield.
Modern HV short barrel and BSA match sight. Composite piece. Body dates to 1900. Greatly modified and many parts changed. Modified for rifle range use. Possibly Lee-Enfield (shortened) Range pattern. See Shennerton p. 147, 130.
Modifications:
Butt swivel removed. Improved type placed just forward of magazine.
Lithgow replacement band shortened to 64.3 from 77cms. Fore end wood shortened c.12cm, new foresight attached to barrel. Bolt is incorrect for this model . It is actually of WWII vintage. Rear sight not present, peepsight base attached in place4 of LR volley sight. BSA type masked :'3 crossed rifles/BSA','Pat.22619-09'
