COMPASS PLANE

Metal pattern, compass (or circular) plane (developed in the second half of the nineteenth century). The Stock is U-shaped, with the flexible sole fixed to it in the middle, and at each end where it is adjustable by thumb screws. It is an early type of metal pattern compass plane, and is described and illustrated in R.a. Salaman, Dictionary of Tools, london, 1975, p.p. 315, 316 & fig 465c.
