COIN, 1948, British sixpence, cupronickel alloy. Obverse has uncrowned bust of King George VI facing left; inscription around the inner edge 'GEORGIVS VI D : G : BR : OMN : REX' ('George VI, By the Grace of God, Ruler and King of Britain').
Reverse inscription 'FID . DEF. . IND . IMP SIXPENCE' (Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India') stamped around inner edge of top half of coin. Date is split in two on either side of central initials 'GRI' (Georgius Rex Imperator - in English, George King Emperor). Initials are surmounted by a crown.
