SQUEEZE BOX CONCERTINA, hexagonal, wood, EPNS and leather, hand-marked ‘W. HARWOOD/ CANNING VALE’, in black paper-covered box, c. 1920

[1] Concertina. Hexagonal, dark brown lacquered wood. Ends encased in ornate electroplated nickel silver design with 24 EPNS buttons on each end. One end marked, on wood, ‘W. HARWOOD/ CANNING VALE’. Leather thumb straps on each end, marked ‘M’ and ‘H’. America cloth bellows partially covered in fabric tape.
[2] Box base. Black paper-covered exterior, very scratched and peeled. Interior covered in salmon pink felt that has disintegrated considerably. Small metal clasps and hinges at top of box to attach to lid, no longer functioning.
[3] Box lid. Black paper-covered exterior, very scratched and peeled. Interior covered in salmon pink felt that has disintegrated considerably. Small metal clasps and hinges on lid to attach to base, no longer functioning. Small looped handle at top of lid, attached with screws that are covered by cork on underside.
