Articulated celluloid baby doll with brown hair on head, brown painted eyebrows, black painted eyes & red mouth and nostrils. Head can be moved up and down and sideways. On back is maker's mark under which, 'MADE IN JAPAN'. Arms and legs are fixed at a slight angle at knees and elbows but rotate at major joints (top of arms and legs). The outside of each thigh has a plug or repair and there is a circular opening at base of body section between the legs.
Doll is dressed in clothes supplied or made by Mrs Pike 1986 c.a. The pattern for clothes appears to be for a baby of the 1960s rather than a doll's clothes pattern.
H.1996.141.1 - Chain store-bought undies with label 'COTTON/ POLYESTER/ SIZE 2-3/ RIO/ MADE IN AUSTRALIA'. White fabric has orange, yellow and blue hearts, dots and decorative wavy lines. Elastic at legs and waist.
H.1996.141.2 - Petticoat with label 'Bye Bye/ made in N.3.' Off white polyester with lace at neck, armholes and lower edge. Has pink drawn-ribbon rose on lower edge.
H.1996.141.3 - Hand knitted dress with long sleeves and decorative moss stitch bands at arms, waist and lower edge of skirt. Secured at centre opening back with 2 buttons and press clip. Latter has button sewn to outside surface. (Brown mark on back, right side near waist).
H.1996.141.4 - Coat to match dress with moss stitch decoration. Opens down front but top above waist is secured by four buttons, raglan long sleeves.
H.1996.141.5 - Bonnett with moss stitch to match .3.
H.1996.141.6 - Mitten with moss stitch cuffs. Ties at wrist with ribbon.
H.1996.141.7 - Mitten with moss stitch cuffs. Ties at wrist with ribbon.
H.1996.141.8 - Bootie with moss stitch edge and ribbon at ankle.
H.1996.141.9 - Bootie with moss stitch edge and ribbon at ankle.
*Addition (1/5/98) - 'Made in Japan' stamped on back of body. Painted face, some peeling, moulded brown hair. Elastic jointed limbs. Wearing white knitted dress and overcoat, booties, mittens, white knitted bonnet, cotton petticoat and elastic knickers.
