HYDROMETER, Butchering

H1994.231

Livestock hydrometer, glass, encased in a cardboard tube wth lid. The hydrometer (1) has a bulb at one end containng mercury, followed by a narrow neck, a wider section and finally another narrow section, 16.5cm long, containing markers printed on paper. Inscription on paper: 'Hydrometer from 0700-1000 Temp: 60degressF'. The cardboard tube casing (2+3) of the hydromter is papered in mottled dark and light browns; one end is stoppered with plant fibres, presumably because the end stopper had become detached. On the lid end, in ink, is written '1900' or similar; a paper cuff around the end stoppered with fibres in an almost illegible hand-written inscription including the word 'liquid'.
