SAFETY RAZOR, in bakelite case

Rectangular green bakelite box with burl pattern and hinged lid. On lid of box 'GEM'. Inside of box is fitted to hold a 'GEM' single sided blade safety razor. Razor has a sprung lever section which lifts to enable the blade to be inserted. Razor is chrome plated and has a six sided handle decorated with a motif. Back of razor has 'GEM / MADE IN ENGLAND' and inside where blade fits has 'GEM / BRITISH MADE'. Box also contains a blade wrapped in paper of orange and brown with white lettering which says on the front 'GEM / BLADE / SINGLEDGE' and on the back 'MADE UNDER LICENCE OF / PHILIP MORRIS INC. OWNERS OF / THE REGISTERED TRADE MARK / PERSONNA INTERNATIONAL U.K.' See H87.460 for 'GEM' blades. See Foy & Gibson's catalogue, 1923, page 167 for advertisement for 'GEM' safety razor in a case with seven blades and a stropping attachment for 7/6d. Part of a donation of household effects from relatives of Mr & Mrs Osterberg who came from the Eastern Sates to settle the estate.
