DUREX EDGER

H1989.715

Edger is for joining two pieces or rolls of paper with sticky tape, or putting a tape edge on paper eg. tracing paper in order to strengthen it. Flat shiny stainless steel? plate with sticky tape roll, handle, rollers and guillotine attached. The far edge of the plate is curled under out of the way. The near edge is folded over forming an edge for the paper to run under. The plate screws into the main frame which is made of heavy metal and contains the spool and handle for tape dispensing, and the clamp for attaching to a bench or table. The tape feeds from the outside of the frame past guides to attach to the paper and then the two are passed through rollers. Beyond this is a guillotine wide enough to cut the tape. Just in front of the roller the word 'START' has been engraved into the metal plate. The toys were used by Miss Frances Rogers. Miss Rogers, born on 19 Oct 1904, went to Teacher's College in 1930 and joined the Education Department of W.A. in 1934. Between 1934 and her retirement in 1967, she taught at various country schools, took special classes for deaf and dumb children in Mosman Park, and classes for mentally and physically disabled children in Leederville. She also made and purchased a large collection of puppets which were used as teaching aids. These are accessioned under numbers H88/613 to H89/307 (not inclusive).
