Sewerage pipe Terracotta Branch piece or junction [.a] & plug cap [.b] Made from brown/orange earthenware terracotta (unglazed) large flanged sockets at the top and on the branch pipe to facilitate the joining with other pipes or to form a cup for the plug cap [.b] to fit into. The rim at the bottom is slightly bevelled "Bristile / 2405011" etched onto the outside of the top flange. This type of pipe can be used to put an access vent into a line of apes or provide a branch to facilitate the junction of a line of pipe joining a line flowing in another direction. This type of terracotta pipe has been used for most of the 20th C and is still in use.
