COMB, Tortoise-shell

H1987.354

Female hair comb, distinctive tortoise shell ie brown and yellow colouring. Probably hand cut as shown by roughness of the internal edges and tool marks as well as some slight irregularities in pattern. Three rounded prongs hold the hair in place, the part of the comb that would be visible when hair is in place has some patterning - 2 cut out crescent shaped areas on either side of a cut out diamond like area. The external edge of the comb is fairly shiny with some possible tool marks on the front side and the back side. The shell is thicker at the top where the crescent patterning is and thinner in the prong area with some flexibility.
