CHINESE BASKET - Haberdashery
CH1985.428
Cane basket, brown with red rim, rattan weave inside and finer on outside. Used by a Chinese hawker in Camberwell, Victoria, around 1916. The basket contained haberdashery items and was carried in two big basketware containers (paniers) at the end of a long pole. There was no public transport in outer Melbourne at that time. The old Chinese hawker returned to China about 1920.
