Cobalt blue in body. Black pit marks in glaze from manufacturing process. Slightly bluish and fairly thick glaze. Oval shaped with scalloped edges. Border painted with small panels of roses on a cobalt blue ground with trailing vines between panels in gilt. In centre three natural flower sprays and a single central rose. Marked in blu with crown over script 'D' which was used between ca 1770-82. Painting is identical to that of a dessert plate illustrated in Twitchett Derby Porcelain plate 210 which was painted by William Billingsley. This has the later mark however and is dated 1790.
