EMBROIDERED AND PAINTED SCENE IN FRAME
CH1980.410
Part embroidered, part painted farm house and garden scene on linen. Roof of cottage worked in brown and gold coloured wool to give thatched effect. Trees and greenery around cottage in wool; orange, pink, yellow, red, blue, white and lilac flowers worked mainly in silk. Remainder of house and sky painted. Framed in veneered 4cm wide wood. Short chain attached at top centre on back. Written on back: 'Pure silk and wool on grey linen. Embroidered in 1924 by Mrs E. Sidney Smith. Flowers, cherrytree copied from those in/ her own garden at Villa Mon-Sejour/ Cappellon/ Lez Anvers/ Belgique/ Flemish Farmhouse/ from pencil sketch by C.De Beuckaer.'
