[.1] centrepiece; sterling silver with 3 entwined trees on top of a base representating a rocky mound with pair of emus, pair of kangaroos, and 3 Aboriginal figures. One Aboriginal figure on tree pursuing a possum. 3 engraved panels to base; (i) "PRESENTED / BY THE / OFFICERS OF THE / SURVEY DEPARTMENT / TO / THE HONBLE CAPTAIN / John Septimus Roe / R.N., F.I.S. F.R.G.S. / Surveyor GENERAL / OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA / ON HIS RETIRING FROM OFFICE / AFTER UPWARDS OF 42 YEARS SERVICE / AS A MARK OF THEIR SINCERE ESTEEM / 1870"; (ii) Roe crest; (iii) illustration of theodolite, sextant telescope, surveyor's chain etc. Hallmarks are located to one side of base; sterling silver, Birmingham mark, 'ADELAIDE', 'J.M. WENDT'.
[.2] base; jarrah with triangular rounded corners and scalloped sides.
