MEMORIAL STONE and TIME CAPSULE, Mechanic's Institute

[.a] MEMORIAL STONE laid at the Swan River Mechanic's Institute, at Pier & Hay street on 20 June 1898 by Sir John Forrest.The building was demolished March 1971. The presentation trowel used to lay this stone is in the Forrest Collection. A time capsule (CH1970.1062.b) was contained in CH1970.1062.a.

[.b] TIME CAPSULE. At 3.30 pm the Premier, The Hon. John Tonkin M.L.A. opened the Time Capsule in the Woodward Gallery. Contents: Coins dated 1845-6 and 1896-7, photo of original building, newspaper and stamps.
(i) Sealed wooden pill box, 9 coins.
