Construction begins on final Fremantle Welcome Walls

Perth firm Freo Constructions has begun work on the final migrant Welcome Walls at the Western Australian Museum – Maritime in Fremantle.

The project is on target to be completed by the end of 2010.

In addition to placing more than 4,500 new names on the Welcome Walls, the Museum is working to undertake some works to reinstate the steps in front of the Museum and improve access to the Welcome Walls. The works will also include some minor improvements to the previous two stages.

Albany Welcome Walls designs approved by City of Albany

The final design for the Welcome Walls in Albany was unanimously endorsed at the City of Albany’s full council meeting on Tuesday 20 July.

Heritage Council approval of the final design is the last stage of the process and the Western Australian Museum will submit a heritage impact statement to the council this week now that the City of Albany has given its approval.

Albany and Fremantle Welcome Walls to be complete this year

Minister for Culture and the Arts, Hon. John Day today announced the Welcome Walls in Fremantle and Albany would be completed by the end of 2010.

He also announced the successful construction company for the Fremantle Welcome Walls as Freo Constructions.

Construction of the final Fremantle Welcome Walls closer to commencement

Today, tenders closed for the construction of the final walls to be built at the Fremantle Welcome Walls tribute.

Thanks to the assistance of the Minister for Culture and the Arts, the Hon. John Day MLA, and the Building Management and Works division of the Department of Treasury and Finance, the tender process has been completed ahead of schedule.

It is expected that the successful tenderer will be selected very shortly, and that construction will begin by the end of June.
