After careful consideration and evaluation, the site of the Welcome Walls at Albany has been announced.

The Albany Welcome Walls will be located onsite at the Western Australian Museum –Albany, adjacent to the historic Residency building and the Amity Pond.

The location of the Welcome Walls had been under discussion for some time, with several options in the Albany region considered. At the 16 March 2010 Council Meeting, Albany City Council supported the Museum’s preference to keep the Welcome Walls within the Museum precinct. This will provide ready access to the migrant tribute from the Museum for both visitors and staff. In particular, Museum staff will be able to expand the range of programs offered to visitors and groups to include Welcome Walls programs and interpretation, and provide a greater degree of focus on the personal stories of those people and families who arrived in Australia through the port of Albany.

In addition to the Albany Welcome Walls, two new spaces will be created. Visitors will be able to enjoy the Welcome Walls from the new café (also currently in development), as well as the Welcome Walls Research Centre, which will provide resources for research into family histories and the local area.
