Daughter of Rocco Barbaro and Francesca De Pietro. Married Salvatore Zappia at Castellace before immigrating at 21 years of age. Difficult times during WW2 when husband interned at Harvey and Rottnest. Carmela and Salvatore raised 6 children Stefano Salvatore, Rocco Paulo, Pappino, Giuseppina, Paulo, Francesco.
