When Herbert arrived in WA he attended Narrogin Agricultural College; worked for the Uphill family in Tammin before helping to develop family farm at North-East Tammin with brother, Gerald Henry York. In 1914 he married Josephine Gardner at Yorkrakine & they had two children, Philip Herbert (my father) & Elsie Jessica.
