Thomas arrived on the Ormonde actually in January 1921, six months before Clara, who also arrived on the Ormonde but in June 1921. He first went to Yandanooka. With the assistance of the Soldier Settler Scheme he and Clara later moved to Mandougalup after she arrived. Later they moved to Caversham, West Swan and had a table grape vineyard, exporting some grapes. The vineyard was called "Heston" after the agricultural collage Thomas attended for two years before coming to WA.
