Read their story

William helped lay the railway from Perth to Kalgoorlie. Mary and son John arrived 29/12/1886. They had nine children. My mother Gladys was one of them. Thomas was a Stationmaster at Kalgoorlie until he died.

  • The information I had was wrong, on checking I discovered Mary Ellen Williams left London on 4 March, 1898 on the Oratava with her son John who was nearly 3 years old. Mary's husband William Thomas Williams apparently came out earlier, it must have been 1896 or 1897 and he helped lay the railway line to Kalgoorlie.
