Upon arrival on 14th March, 1968, on the Fairsky we were sent to Point Walter Immigrant Hostel & then moved to the small wheatbelt town of Trayning (what a culture shock!) where my husband worked in the local garage as a motor mechanic (his occupation in the Royal Airforce for 12 years prior to being demobbed). After approximately 3 years he applied to become a Customs Officer & we moved to Coolbellup near Fremantle. He remained with the Customs Service for 25 years - based mainly in Fremantle.
A few years after his retirement from Customs we moved to Victoria as our children, Deborah and Dean (as on certificate) had moved interstate and had families of their own.
We have been in Australia 40 years in 2008 and we feel it (Welcome Walls opening) will be reason for a family celebration and reunion with our old friends still in Western Australia.
