Born in Gand, Belgium. Mother, Edith Strange, was British. Father, Frederick de Kerckhove, died of malaria while acting as Belgian Consul to Guatemala, months before Edith was born. Met husband Horace while working in Munitions Factory in UK during WWI. Had fourth child Patricia, in Perth WA.
