Ryk Van Toorn arrived at the Port of Fremantle, Western Australia on board the ship Fairsea in October 1955. He married his girlfriend Maria Akkermans, who also migrated to Australia on 1955 on board the ship, Johan Van Oldenbarnevelt. The marriage produced four children - Marian, Wendy, Ricky & Patricia
