Pina settled in Carnarvon with her family but became sick two years after arrival. She was operated on but never recovered, and returned to Italy in 1966 where she died. Salvatore attended St. Mary's School for four years then moved to Perth to work. He accidentally drowned in the Swan River at Guildford, aged 17 years.
