Miguel was one of a group of Spanish settlers who started the early Spanish Settlement at Yoongarillup near Busselton. There is a reserve in their honor & a plaque with all their names on it. Aurora arrived in 1907 with one son, Andrew.

When did the very first of the Spanish settlers actually settle[ie build a home and live and farm]at Yoongarillup?
The plaque states Ruttland Casas was the first of the settlers and may have settled the area as early as 1898. Can this be verified please as the Busselton Shire needs the information for their current Heritage precinct proposal.

My research indicates that Ruttland Cassas who according to a Plaque erected by the Spanish settlers at Yoongarillup settled at Yoongarillup as early as 1898.My research indicates that whilst Mr Cassas owned a block of land at Yoongarillup his address appears to be in Perth and there is no evidence he was actually a settler at Yoongarillup in the true sense of the word. It is doubtful that he grew grapes on his land as it was The Torrent family[Miguel who arrived in 1905] and later his wife Aurora who planted a commercial vineyard in Yoongarillup with no grapes harvested before 1907.
