Two brothers Edward and Ernest later started Tomlinson Engineering in Plain Street, East Perth before shifting to Welshpool. On the 8th June 1897 a meeting was held at Metropole Hotel to form a new Yacht Club called Perth Flying Squadron which was later built at the foot of William Street. Ernest and Edward (Ted) Tomlinson were at that meeting. In 1907 Ted Tomlinson, in a boat called AEOLIS, won the Australian 18 foot Championship.
