The family, including 14 year old daughter Joyce, settled in Osborne Park where Robert worked for Rosalie Nursery. Later Robert and Winifred moved to Albany, Western Australia where Robert was Superintendent of Parks & Gardens for the Albany Town Council. He was awarded a British Empire Medal in 1981 for his services to horticulture.
