John & Gararda settled in Tallanalla, WA where two more children were born - Johanna & Henry. After retiring from the Perth City Council as a Curator of Parks & Gardens. They bought their own home in Kelmscott & were the proud grandparents of twenty granchildren.

Just wondering if there was room to put my family name on the welcome wall. The Scheutjens Family were also on the JOHAN VAN OLDENBARNEVELT arriving in Fremantle Nov 1952. There was no room on the wall when I last queried.

As the oldest son, having grown up in Perth I actually returned to The Netherlands in 1972, got married, have 3 children. Should this website be updated, herewith some additions/corrections. Dad John,(Johannes Bartholomeus) passed away 14th Aug.2008. My mother's date of death is 21st Oct (not 19th as stated) Pls.note the departure port on that voyage was definitely Amsterdam (not Rotterdam as stated). Unfortunately not able to ascertain exact sailing/departure date! Any help on that would be appreciated. Mum's name is incorrectly spelled as Gararda in 'Read their story'. Thanks for this website/entry.
