David became a seaman on the 'Fanny' working for Curtis of Fremantle. He travelled to Cloudy Bay, New Zealand on a whaler owned by Captain Jack Guard, where he married Harriet Baldick in 1848. David was a Captain of the General Palmer, he worked as a waterman until the 1880's.
