Edmund was the son of Naval Lieutenant John Stirling who served under Nelson at Trafalgar in 1805. Edmund established the 'Enquirer' Newspaper in Perth in 1840, parent newspaper to 'Daily News'. Edmund married Ethel Read 1837 who had arrived in Fremantle 1830 aboard ROCKINGSHIRE and had 11 children - all settled in WA.
