Charles Spencer arrived with wife and four year old daughter Elizabeth. They were expecting a second child when they arrived at Fremantle. They lived in a tent at first and when the new baby John was 9 days old, took up land to farm at Cannington and later Serpentine. The Spencers after 7 generations are now scattered across Australia.

  • I am a descendant of Charles Spencer and all documentation i have states that baby John was born at sea during the voyage. This is supported by the fact that the Calista docked on 5/8/1829, and baby John was born 27/7/1829, 9 days prior to landing.

  • I think I may be connected to the first child born in the Swan River Colony 1829 and wondered if my name has shown up in your research?
